- Please Note: The helicopter will give you Boarding of Same Day flying or the Next Day, it is an internal decision for the helicopter service, they will not accept any kind of interference from anybody. If the Aviation Service gave you boarding for the 03rd day, then you will have to manage the stay of 02nd days by yourself at Sonmarg / Baltal. If you keep our transport service with you for more than 03 days, then you will have to pay for the additional days of transport to the driver or transport manager.
Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar – Sonmarg (80 km / 1 hr 30 min approx)
Amarnath yatra helicopter begins from Srinagar. Upon arrival in Srinagar, receive a warm welcome from our tour representative. He will further help you with a guided transfer to Sonmarg. Srinagar, the beautiful capital city of Jammu Kashmir, presents numerous sights to behold. First, admire the scenic roadways meandering through the imposing Himalayas en route. Then, once you reach your destination, complete the check-in formalities and enjoy the rest of the day leisurely. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.(Hotel Villa Himalaya or similar)
Day 3: Srinagar Sightseeing
Start the day with a delicious breakfast. Later on, leave for Srinagar. After reaching, you will head towards the scenic Mughal Gardens. On your Srinagar sightseeing tour, you will explore the Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh. Finally, the day ends with a delightful Shikara ride on the calm waters of Dal Lake (at your own cost). Day 4: Departure from Srinagar
This is the last day of the Amarnath yatra by helicopter package. After that, get comfortably transferred to the Srinagar airport. From there, board the flight towards your onward destination.
1. What are the routes available for the Amarnath Yatra by helicopter?
There are two major routes for helicopter services during the Amarnath Yatra:
Baltal to Panjtarni: This is the shorter and more popular route. The helicopter takes you from Baltal to Panjtarni, and from Panjtarni, it is a 6 km trek or pony/palki ride to the holy cave.
Pahalgam to Panjtarni: This is a longer route, and from Panjtarni, you also need to trek or hire a pony/palki for the remaining 6 km to the cave.
2. How long does the helicopter ride take?
Baltal to Panjtarni: Approx. 8-10 minutes by helicopter.
Pahalgam to Panjtarni: Approx. 20-25 minutes by helicopter.
3. How can I book a helicopter for the Amarnath Yatra?
Helicopter tickets can be booked:
Online: The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) offers online booking through their official website or authorized travel portals.
Through agents: SASB-authorized agents or registered tour operators can also help with the booking.
You must also register for the Yatra separately through the official website or designated bank branches.
4. What documents are required for booking the helicopter ride?
Yatra Registration Slip: You need to register for the Yatra first and obtain the Yatra Registration Slip from SASB.
ID Proof: A valid government-issued ID like Aadhar card, Voter ID, or Passport.
Medical Fitness Certificate: All pilgrims must carry a compulsory medical certificate stating their fitness for high-altitude travel (issued by authorized doctors/medical institutions).
5. What is the cost of the helicopter service?
Baltal to Panjtarni: Approx. ₹2,500-3,000 one way, per person.
Pahalgam to Panjtarni: Approx. ₹4,500-5,000 one way, per person. These rates are subject to change, so check the latest pricing on the official SASB website or through your booking platform.
6. What is the best time for the Amarnath Yatra by helicopter?
The Yatra typically takes place during July-August, based on the Hindu calendar, coinciding with the festival of Shravan. The weather during this period is relatively better, but rains and unpredictable weather conditions can still cause delays.
7. How far is the Holy Cave from Panjtarni, and how can I travel the distance?
From Panjtarni, the Holy Cave is around 6 km. You can travel this distance by:
Trekking: Takes around 2-3 hours.
Pony: Available at Panjtarni for hire.
Palki (Palanquin): Suitable for elderly or those who cannot trek, but more expensive than ponies.
8. What is the procedure at the helipad?
Check-in: Arrive at the helipad (either Baltal or Pahalgam) at least 1-2 hours before your scheduled departure. Carry your Yatra permit and valid ID.
Security check: There will be security screenings before boarding.
Baggage restrictions: Only small bags (usually up to 5 kg) are allowed. Excess baggage will not be permitted.
9. What if the helicopter ride is canceled due to bad weather?
Helicopter services can be canceled or delayed due to adverse weather conditions. In case of cancellation:
Rescheduling: You may be rescheduled on the next available flight.
Refund: If no flight is available, you will be entitled to a full refund of the helicopter ticket. However, accommodation and other travel expenses are non-refundable.
10. What should I pack for the Yatra?
Warm clothes: The temperature can drop drastically, especially near the cave.
Rain gear: Carry waterproof jackets and shoes as rain is common.
Comfortable shoes: You may need to walk or trek, so sturdy and comfortable shoes are essential.
Medicines: Carry personal medicines along with a basic first aid kit.
Other essentials: ID proof, Yatra permit, medical certificate, and light snacks.
11. Is the Amarnath Yatra by helicopter suitable for elderly or physically challenged pilgrims?
Yes, the helicopter option makes the Yatra more accessible for elderly and physically challenged pilgrims, reducing the trekking distance significantly. However, from Panjtarni to the Holy Cave, additional assistance (pony, palki) may still be required.
12. Are there any age restrictions for the Yatra?
Yes, children below 13 years of age and elderly above 75 years are not permitted to undertake the Yatra as per SASB guidelines, due to the challenging conditions.
13. What are the health risks, and how to deal with altitude sickness?
At Panjtarni and the cave, the altitude can be over 12,000 feet, which may cause altitude sickness (symptoms: headache, dizziness, nausea). To minimize risks:
Acclimatize in Srinagar or Pahalgam before the Yatra.
Stay hydrated and avoid exertion.
If needed, carry medications for altitude sickness (consult your doctor).
14. What other services are available at Panjtarni and the Holy Cave?
Medical facilities: Basic medical camps are set up at various points along the Yatra route.
Food and beverages: Langars (community kitchens) are available offering free food.
Resting tents: Temporary campsites are set up for resting, though facilities are basic.
15. How many days are required for the Amarnath Yatra by helicopter?
For the helicopter Yatra, typically 3-4 days are sufficient:
Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar or Pahalgam.

16. What are the darshan timings at the Amarnath Cave?
