Q: How many days does it take to travel around the Northeast?

Ans: A minimum of 7 days is required to visit two or three famous tourist destinations. Generally, a minimum of 25 days is required to visit all seven states and see the best of these places. 2 to 3 weeks is recommended. Please note that this optimal coverage includes all locations in all states, including the most popular ones. It takes more than 50 days to visit all tourist attractions in each state.

 

Q: What are the major airports in Northeast India?

Ans: Major airports in Northeast India: Dibrugarh Airport, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Lilabari Airport, Jorhat Airport, Silchar Airport, Tezpur Airport, Dimapur Airport, Lengpui Airport, Shillong Airport, Pasighat Airport, Agartala Airport, Imphal International Airport.

 

Q: Do we need special permission to visit Northeast India?

Ans: Not applicable to all states. But 3 out of 7 states in the Northeast require a permit: Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram. The permit is called the Inner Line Permit (ILP). Any state outside the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland or Mizoram can get the permit. Major airports in the Northeast, such as Guwahati International Airport, can issue the permit. The Arunachal Pradesh government also provides the facility to apply for an Inner Line Permit online. Foreigners require a different type of permit, the Protected Area Permit (PAP). We usually include the cost of applying for an ILP in the total cost of our tour packages to ensure that your trip is hassle-free.

 

Q: When it is best time to visit Northeast India?

Ans: The best time to visit Arunachal Pradesh is in between September and May. The best time to visit Meghalaya is from January to July. In fact, Meghalaya can be visited all year round, but the waterfalls are at their most beautiful during the summer months. The national parks are officially open only during winter, usually from November through April.

Ans: The best time to visit Assam and Meghalaya is typically during the months of October to May, when the weather is pleasant and ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

 

Q: How to Reach North East India

Ans: Northeast India is one of the most promising holiday destinations in India. Some parts of the northeast are still not developed and considered as remote areas. However, if you wish to visit this paradise, there are various ways to access the same.

 

Check out the following ways to travel to Northeast India:

 

By Flight

There are several cities in India that offer direct flights to Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and Tripura. Guwahati, the only metropolitan city in the Northeast, is the gateway to other states in the Northeast. Guwahati offers direct and domestic flights from various cities in India. From Guwahati, you can catch flights to Dimapur, Silchar, Aizawl, Agartala, Tezpur, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh. Not all states have functioning airports; therefore, the only mode of transportation once you reach a destination is by road. There are also helicopter flights to Aizwal and Naharlagun.

 

By Car

Most people prefer to reach Northeast India by road and experience the amazing landscapes.

 

By Bus

Buses from the Northeast run to Guwahati from West Bengal. You can get off in Guwahati and take ASTC buses from Paltan Bazar to other states in Northeast India.

 

Other options to travel locally include Sumo or shared taxis to travel within the urban areas. The tourist taxi services available in Northeast states make it quite convenient to travel around the different states.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: NJP Rly Station / IXB Airport – Gangtok (125 kms / 4 hrs)


Meet & Greet on arrival at NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport & transfer to Gangtok (5,480 ft.). On arrival check-in to hotel & rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 2: Excursion to Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir


After breakfast start for an excursion to Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft.) & Baba Mandir (13,200 ft.) which is 55 kms one way from Gangtok city. Overnight stay at Gangtok.


(In case of Land slide or any other reason Tsomgo Lake is closed we will provided alternate sightseeing.).

Day 3: Gangtok – Lachung (116 kms / 6 hrs)


After breakfast pick up from hotel & transfer to Lachung (8,800 ft.). Enroute visit Singhik View point, Seven Sister Water Fall, Naga Water Fall, and arrive Lachung by evening. Dinner & Overnight stay at Lachung.

Day 4: Lachung – Yumthang Valley Excursion


After breakfast drive to Yumthang Valley (11,800 ft. known as Valley of Flowers). On the way back, visit Hot Spring considered to have medicinal properties. Back to resort for lunch. Overnight stay at Lachung.

Day 5: Lachung – Gangtok (116 kms / 6 hrs)


After breakfast departure for Gangtok, enroute witness the wonderful Bheema & Twin water falls. On arrival at Gangtok check-in to your hotel. Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 6: Gangtok Local Sightseeing – Pelling (120 kms / 5 hrs)


After breakfast start for a half day trip of Gangtok city covering Banzakhri Falls, Cottage Industry and Handicraft Centre, Flower show, Dro-dul Chorten & Institute of Tibetology (maximum 3-4 hours). Afternoon drive to Pelling (6,100 ft.). On arrival check-in to your hotel. Overnight stay at Pelling.

Day 7: Pelling Sightseeing


After breakfast start for full day sightseeing. 1st Half tour – Darap village, Rimbi water Falls, Sewaro Rock Garden, Khecheopalri Lake & Khangchendzongha waterfalls. In afternoon start for 2nd Half tour – Pemayangtse Monastery, Rabdantse Ruins, New Halipad Ground. Overnight stay at Pelling.

Day 8: Pelling – Darjeeling (109 kms / 4 hrs)


After breakfast drive to Darjeeling (6,710 ft.). On arrival check-in to your hotel & rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at Darjeeling.

Day 9: Darjeeling Sightseeing


Early Morning (at 4.00 am) drive to Tiger Hill to watch the spectacular Sunrise over Mt. Khangchendzongha (28,208 ft. Worlds 3rd highest peak), on your way back visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. After breakfast visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, P.N. Zoological Park (Thursday closed) Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self-help Centre (Sunday closed), Tea Garden (outer view), Ava Art Gallery and Japanese Temple (4 hrs from 9.00 to 13.00 hrs). Evening free for shopping & leisure. Overnight stay at Darjeeling.

Day 10: Darjeeling – Kalimpong (58 kms / 2.5hrs) Sightseeing


After Breakfast transfer to Kalimpong (4,100 ft.). On arrival check-in to your hotel. Afternoon enjoy half day tour of Kalimpong Visiting Mangal Dham, Deolo Hill, Dr. Graham’s Home, Golf Garden, Durpin Dara Hills & Flower Nurseries. Overnight stay at Kalimpong.

Day 11: Kalimpong – NJP Rly Station / IXB airport (75 kms / 3 hrs)


After breakfast check out from hotel on time and take the departure transfer to NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport for your onward journey.
