Madurai is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. Situated beside the Vaigai river, it was the erstwhile capital of the Pandyan kingdom and the third-largest city of Tamil Nadu. There are a string of names given to this city - City of Junctions (Koodal nagaram), City of Jasmine (Malligai maanagar), Temple City (Koil maanagar), City That Never Sleeps (Thoonga nagaram) and City of Four Junctions (Naanmada koodal). It's the greatest relic of Dravidian architecture and considered to be the place where Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati. Your final leg of the journey will be travelling from Kanyakumari to Trivandrum. Also known as Thiruvananthapuram, it was also given the name as the Evergreen City of India by Mahatma Gandhi.
