Panch Kailash Yatra

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra for Indians

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a revered pilgrimage for many Indians, offering a profound spiritual experience. As of January 2025, the pilgrimage has been suspended due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, there is positive news: the Yatra is expected to resume in June 2025 after a five-year hiatus. Nepali tour operators anticipate over 20,000 Indian bookings for the pilgrimage, highlighting the renewed interest among devotees.

For those planning the Yatra, it's essential to understand the various routes available:

Via Nepal (Simikot Route): This route involves a combination of flights, trekking, and overland travel through Tibet. It's a popular choice for its accessibility and cultural experience.

Via Tibet (Lhasa Route): Travelers fly to Lhasa and then embark on an overland journey to Kailash. This route offers stunning views of the Tibetan plateau.

Via Uttarakhand (Lipulekh Pass): This route starts from the Indian border and involves trekking into Tibet. It's a more challenging path but offers a unique experience.

Given the high altitude and challenging terrain, proper physical preparation and acclimatization are crucial. It's advisable to start training 2-3 months in advance, focusing on endurance and cardio. Additionally, carrying altitude sickness medication and consulting a doctor beforehand is recommended.

The best time to undertake the Yatra is between May and September, when the weather is relatively stable. However, even during these months, temperatures can drop below freezing at night, and strong winds are common.
