Description

Muktinath Temple tour, located at an altitude of 3750 meters in Muktinath valley of Mustang district Nepal, is a sacred place for both Hindus & Buddhists. Hindus regard this place as ‘Mukti Kshetra’, that is, the place of salvation. Buddhists call it ‘Chumig Gyatsa’ which refers to Hundred Waters. Jomsom is the gateway to Muktinath.

The beautiful Janaki temple is a dedication to Sita, whose other name is Janaki. The temple reflects an exquisite Mughal architecture. Structurally so intriguing, fully built-in bright white, occupying an area of 1480 square meters, the three-storied structure is all made of marble and stone. There is this belief that Sita and Ram got married in a temple nearby called “Vivaha Mandap”. Another interesting tale is that the Janaki temple cost nine hundred thousand or nine lakh when it was built. The temple is thus also called Nau Lakha Mandir (9 lakh temple). Pilgrims from different parts of the world including Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka come to visit the temple. The temple is mostly crowded during Vivaha Panchami (the day of Ram and Sita’s wedding), Ram Nawami (the day of Ram’s birth), and Dashain and Tihar (the two biggest festivals of Nepal).
