The Yamunotri Gangotri Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage tour to two of the holiest destinations in Uttarakhand. It includes a visit to Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River, and Gangotri, the origin of the Ganges. Day 1: Dehradun/Haridwar

Day 2: Haridwar - Barkot (220 Km/7 Hrs Drive)
From there he’ll take you to Barkot through a drive via Dehradun and Mussoorie. En-route you’ll be taken to Kempty Fall where we’ll halt our expedition for some time to witness the surreal beauty of this renowned cascade. Once we resume the journey, you will be taken to your hotel in Barkot for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Barkot - Yamunotri - Barkot (42 Km Drive + 6 Km Trek Per Way)
After having a nutritious breakfast, we’ll commence the 42 km drive to Janki Chatti. On arrival, we’ll straightaway start the 6 km trek to Yamunotri Temple. After the darshan at the temple, you’ll trek down to Janki Chatti where your driver awaits to take you back to your hotel in Barkot for a comfortable overnight stay.
Day 4: Barkot - Uttarkashi (82 Km/4 Hrs Drive)
On day 4, after the scrumptious breakfast, you’ll undergo a 4-hour journey to Uttarkashi. Once you enter Uttarkashi, you’ll be directly taken to your hotel where you’ll be free for the rest of the day for your own time. However, you can offer your prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Shakti Temple in the evening.
Day 5: Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Uttarkashi (100 Km/4 Hrs Drive Per Way)
Your day 4 will start a bit early as compared to other days. After having breakfast in the early morning, we’ll start our 4-hour drive to Gangotri via Harsil. On reaching, you’ll be taken to the Gangotri Temple to offer your prayers. After that, you’ll be driven back to your hotel in Uttarkashi for an overnight stay.
Day 6 : Uttarkashi to Dehradun (150km 5 hrs)
Like every day, your last day will also start with a delicious breakfast. Thereafter, you’ll be driven back your onward destination Checkinn Dinner
Day 7: Departure
Breakfast checkout and drop AT THE Dehradun Airport or Haridwar Railway station

1. What is the best time to do the Yamunotri Gangotri Yatra?
The ideal time for the yatra is between May and June and September to October. The Char Dham shrines remain closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall. The monsoon months (July–August) are best avoided due to landslides and road blockages.
2. Do I need a permit for the yatra?
No permit is required for the yatra itself. However, you must register at checkpoints in Uttarakhand, either online through the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra registration portal or in person at the yatra starting points.
3. How physically demanding is the yatra?
The yatra involves moderate trekking, especially to Yamunotri. The trek to Yamunotri from Jankichatti is about 6 km (one-way) and can be challenging for some due to steep ascents. Gangotri is accessible by road. Ponies, palkis (palanquins), and porters are available for those who may have difficulty walking.
4. What are the accommodation options during the yatra?
Accommodation is available in Barkot, Uttarkashi, and Gangotri. Options range from budget hotels, dharamshalas, and guesthouses to deluxe hotels. Booking in advance during peak season is recommended.
5. Is the yatra suitable for senior citizens or children?
Yes, but it's important to note that the trek to Yamunotri can be physically demanding. Seniors and those with health issues should consult their doctor beforehand. Ponies, palanquins, and helicopter services (for Yamunotri) may be useful for elderly pilgrims.

By Road: There are regular buses and taxis from Haridwar, Dehradun, and Rishikesh to Barkot and Uttarkashi. Private vehicles can also be hired.
8. Are there any health risks during the yatra?
High altitude, weather changes, and long walks can affect some pilgrims. Altitude sickness may affect some at higher elevations (especially near Gangotri). It's important to stay hydrated and take regular breaks. Medical facilities are basic at the pilgrimage sites.
9. How can I prepare physically for the trek to Yamunotri?
Begin light exercises and walking at least a month before the trip to improve your stamina. Doing moderate hikes, climbing stairs, or brisk walking can help with endurance for the trek.
10. Are food and water easily available during the yatra?
Yes, basic vegetarian food is available at most stops, especially in Barkot, Uttarkashi, Gangotri, and near Yamunotri. You should carry bottled water or purification tablets, as clean drinking water may not always be readily available.
11. Is there mobile network coverage?
Mobile network coverage is limited, especially after Barkot and Uttarkashi. BSNL networks tend to work in some areas, but it’s not reliable. Inform your family in advance about the limited connectivity.
12. Is it possible to do the yatra by helicopter?
Yes, helicopter services are available for Yamunotri, reducing the trek distance. However, these services depend on weather conditions and are subject to availability. Helicopter tickets must be booked in advance through authorized tour operators.
13. Is photography allowed at the shrines?
Photography is usually allowed outside the shrines, but inside photography is generally prohibited, especially in temple sanctums. Always ask for permission if unsure.
